Collins' Couch to 110km Coastal Challenge

The Collins’s story

On the 16th of July 2022, Lee and Gemma Collins will be starting their 110km (68.3 miles) challenge to raise money for Gwealan Tops Adventure Playground. Gwealan’s future Lottery funding is set to reduce in the very near future, and all hands are needed on deck to keep Gwealan Tops funded and open to the thousands of children that visit each year.

Gwealan Tops is not only a supervised outdoor adventure play area, but also a haven and refuge for many children living in Redruth North, one of the 10% most deprived areas in the country. Gwealan Tops relies on charitable donations to be able to provide a fun, safe space for children to be able to explore and act as children should.

Lee & Gemma’s Facebook page ‘The Collins’ Couch to 110k Coastal Challenge’ (fb.me/collinscoastalchallenge) will capture their arduous and long journey from couch to being challenge ready in July!

The challenge is to complete a grueling 110km route from Tintagel Castle to Portreath in under 24 hours, along the South West Coast Path. The SWCP is well known for its rugged uneven terrain which incorporates a mixture of both steep ascents and descents along its route. The path is mostly unmade ground with an uneven, rocky surface. Not the optimal route for a long-distance challenge, but this just adds to the excitement.

This will be a huge undertaking and is not something they have taken lightly. They are going from a standing start, not having done anything like this before. In just a short 6 months, they have to be fit enough to climb a total ascent of 4200m (13,779 feet) – nearly half the height of Mount Everest, along with a total distance just shy of 70 miles under 24 hours.

They will need your support and lots of it.

All funds raised will be passed to the charity irrespective of whether the target is reached, not reached or exceeded
